As I mentioned in my post-holiday post, the lovely Jassy Davis from Gin & Crumpets (and fabulous co-author of The Contented Calf Cookbook) and I organised a sneak preview of the cookbook for some local friends, supporters and local breastfeeding experts to celebrate it’s official launch on 10th October. The aim of the event was to introduce the book and ourselves to the local pregnancy/baby/breastfeeding community and to gauge their reactions to the book and the food. I’m pleased to report it went really well. Both the cookbook and our sample nibbles were hits! And what’s more, Contented Calf has got some great publicity from it, as you can see below:
Luckily, we had plenty of volunteers happy to come round for dinner and put the meals through their paces. Whenever a guest tried to wheedle a recipe out of me, I’d know we’d got the dish right

I’ve never eaten so well! (well, actually, I have – my Dad is a chef, but anyway you get the gist, it was all very yummy) And truly the food was so good that regardless of whether or not you’re breastfeeding you should totally check this cookbook out.
I was also approached by Babes with Babies to write a guest post for their Feelgood Blog about my experience of breastfeeding and lactogenic foods. So I put my thinking cap on and tentatively put fingers to keyboard and began to type….
As we’re constantly on the quest to find ways to make motherhood feel good at Bb London, food does feature a lot on our minds (and a bit on the blog). And as we’re particularly concerned with new mothers then we do also talk about breastfeeding. So I though that this week we should bring the two things together… boobs and grub, all in one neat blog post. The For Sanity’s Sake team were so taken with Contented Calf’s food and cookbook, not only have they bought a copy as a gift (“I’ve tasted the food and it’s amazing…so I’ve got the book (even though I’m not b/feeding!) and bought it as a baby shower present for friends.”), invited me to speak about how I’ve become a ‘mumpreneur’ at their Working Mums Networking Event on 1st December, but let me type away as a guest blogger once more on their Inspiration Blog.

The knowledge that foods such as oats or fennel, and herbs such as basil and cinnamon, build up women’s milk supply can be traced back to ancient Greece. Hilary Jacobson, lactogenic foods expert, and author of Mother Foods says ‘Lactogenic foods enjoy a long tradition in Britain…and Elena Cimelli’s cookbook is wonderful example of how breastfeeding mothers can embrace these special healthful foods.

After 18 months of research, recipe testing, more recipe testing and line by line index checking that left me completely cross-eyed, The Contented Calf Cookbook: Nourishing Recipes For Breastfeeding Mums To Help Promote Milk Production has been published and I’m so proud of it I still can’t resist stroking the cover with joy every time I walk past the mounted display of copies I’ve set up in my living room.
