Cranial Osteopathy: Guest blog from Nargis Ahmad
April 02, 2013
Within minutes of being born our first daughter latched on to feed beautifully. After the shock of the initial soreness of having your nipples sucked the whole time (plus having to recover from a Day One nip), within a few weeks my nipples had gotten used to it and I was able to feed in comfort. (Until teeth and biting become an issue that is!) So when our second daughter was born, I expected things to go the same way. They more or less did. But that ‘initial soreness’ didn’t seem to go away as quickly – especially on my right side. She was five weeks old and I was still in a fair amount of pain when I was feeding. I took her to see Nargis to see what she thought.
Dear 11MO.....
March 26, 2013
Dear 11MO, very very soon you're not going to be a 'MO' any longer, but a big, grown-up 'YO'. You'll be 1YO. Wow. How time flies. I know it's what every parent says. But it's true. Over the last week or so I seem to keep having moments when I think "this time last year...." And I know on your actual birthday those thoughts will be even stronger.
Contented Cow, Contented Calf? I hope so.

For a website that sells a cookbook containing 'Nourishing recipes for breastfeeding mums', you might have noticed a low level, in particular on the blog, of breastfeeding information, news and opinion. Slightly strange, yes. But deliberate. My aim has always been for a website and product with the tone of "We're here if you want us".
Boxing Boot Camp: Days Four & Five
March 12, 2013
Day Four was tough. For some reason I'd woken up at 3:40am and could not go back to sleep. Then 11MO woke at 5am, needing a change, feed and settle, and then 3YO woke around 5:20 with a bad dream, needing a hug, song and settle. By the time all that was done, it was very very tempting to creep back into bed. But I decided to push on through, and was very pleased I did. On days four and five, having learnt the standard punches, and three-punch combinations, we moved on to more difficult four, five and six punch combinations. Thankfully for my tired brain seemingly unable to count to five consistently, we no longer did five repetitions of a combination and five jumps/squats.
Boxing Boot Camp: Day Three
March 06, 2013
Day Three and I'm starting to get into my stride. Woke at 5:29, grabbed remote, turned the power off as soon as I heard the *pubp*, grabbed phone AND hair band and normal clips and snuck downstairs. Freshened up, clothes on, fruit juice drunk and I was out the door at 5:45. AND I'd finally found the yoga mat. I am in the zone!
Boxing Boot Camp: Day Two
March 05, 2013
As I start to type it's 8:15am and my arms feel a little bit weak and shaky. Yes, it was Day Two of Boxing Boot Camp this morning. So how is it going so far? Well, the last 36 hours or so have had an incredible dream-like quality to them. On Sunday night I headed upstairs about 9:30pm and was in bed by 10ish. I fell asleep fairly easily, as is my norm post-children. But I did keep waking to check the time, worrying that my alarm wouldn't go off in time and I would over-sleep. And when I did sleep I had very strange dreams. It was very much like when you have to get up at ridiculous-o'clock to catch an early flight to go holiday, but without the holiday!
Boxing Boot Camp: Day One
March 04, 2013
*pubp* My radio alarm powers up. I lean over, grab the remote and turn it off before it actually starts. I gently push back the covers and tiptoe out of bed. I un-plug my phone and use the light to find my hair brush and a hair band and creep out of the room, softly pulling the bedroom door to. It's 5:30am and I'm awake. Out of choice. What the **** am I doing?? Today is the first day of my Boxing Boot Camp with Deb Townsend. I have four more to go.
Will work have to wait?
February 20, 2013
The next hour will decide whether 3YO goes in to nursery this afternoon or not, depending on whether she's managed to sleep and how the cough is. If she does go in, then I'll get about 1.5-2 hours where I can sit in a cafe somewhere and literally dip my little toe into the world of work. If not, then the next 30 minutes is my lot for the week. And the question I'm left asking myself is: will work just have to wait? Not only this week. But in general. Do I have to change my mindset?
To sleep: perchance to dream? To sleep: perchance to sleep, please.
February 12, 2013
To be honest, all I really want to do when I go to sleep is sleep. For the whole night. And wake up naturally. If I could do this for a whole seven nights in a row, I would be in heaven. I would be a new woman.
3 Simple Steps to a Greener Bottom
January 23, 2013
Ever since I can remember, I’ve been aware of the environment, all things ‘Green’ and wanting to do my bit. One of my favourite childhood activities was taking the boxes of glass bottles to the bottle bank with my mum, throwing them in and hearing them smash - brilliant! When I was at school I was a fully fledged member of ‘Earth Action’. Our activity was painting cardboard boxes green and distributing them throughout the school to collect waste paper. And now I’m a mum, I’m also keen to do what I can - let me share with you my 3 Simple Steps to a Greener Bottom.
